Heading west from the Yemeni capital of Sana'a, you'll pass right by the Harasi district. Here, many villages look like something out of the medeival times: towering castle-like cities dominate the landscape. Coffees here are grown in quite small quantities on steep, terraced land. The growers employ donkeys to assist in the harvest of the cherry. Due to limited land space, the coffees are dried on the rooftips of the castle cities.
In the cup, the Mokha has a tremendous woody taste. As it cools, a deep dried fruit and currant flavor emerges yet the cup stays very sweet. Quite a drasti but welcome change to our usual flavor profile!
