About our CSA Partnership
So if you like our Facebook page (and if you don’t, why not?), you’ve probably seen us talking about teaming up with the Arkansas Valley Organic Growers and offering a space to pickup your CSA basket weekly. I’ve seen some questions arise about it, so I thought I’d expand on what we’re doing…..
First of all, CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Basically, it boils down to you buying “shares” in a farm or organization’s production for the growing season. Your return is a weekly basket filled with goodies from the farm or organization you’re supporting. The bonus is that you’re keeping your hard earned money local.
AVOG’s shares run beyond the vegetables, too. They have meat, cheese, egg, and jam (!) shares as well. No you don’t have to get all the shares. Just one will do.
AVOG’s delivery season runs from the first week of June until mid-November. 25 weeks. That’s a long share time compared to many of the CSA’s out there.
Price: the vegetable share runs $655. While that may seem a little steep for an up front cost, when you break it down, you’re only paying $26.50 per week of the share. I know I buy more than that in produce in a week–I bet you do, too. And, to make it a little easier, a quote from their page:
“Those wishing to split their payment may make two installments $327.50. We’ll send you a reminder when the second payment is due. All shares are due in full by May 10th.”
Your shares will be filled with whatever was picked the few days before delivery day. From local farms.
Short of tending your own garden, does it get any better than that? Nope.
As of the writing of this post, the delivery day is still being decided, but it looks like Tuesday will be the day. (Don’t quote me on that, though) I’ll update when a day is chosen.
Have I piqued your interest yet? Head on over to the AVOG website and sign up.
You’ll be happy you did.
